Uganda:
Digital mapping services and solutions provider, mapIT has announced
the launch of the National Postcode & Addressing System, the Entebbe
Pilot Project for Uganda. Joining hands with SatNav East Africa in May
2012, Uganda’s pioneer in GPS technology, the company has been working
on the pilot project of the Entebbe SatCodes solution.
This addressing solution allows for every property to have a unique “address” and enhance the performance of service providers.
“All
municipalities who are serious about service delivery should adapt to
SatCode Technology,” said Etienne Louw, Managing Director of mapIT. Louw
adds that this venture will be the future of municipal addressing and
enable these institutions to provide customers with a higher level of
service delivery.
The project was launched by the Minister of
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) of Uganda, the
Honourable Doctor Ruhakana Rugunda.
The project involved the
digitalisation of Entebbe Maps for the implementation of the national
postcode and addressing system. This includes the GIS solution with
five layers; the implementation of a National Property Identifier using
SatCodes to provide address codes for “turn-by-turn” navigation; the
placement of address placards on all houses in Entebbe as well as a
marketing campaign to demonstrate and educate service providers on the
benefits.
The National Postcode & Addressing System provides
detailed and dynamic addressing information to support the operations of
a wide range of users such as Posta Uganda, Entebbe Municipal Council,
utility companies and other related service providers.
